Right now he is working on his double axel and putting together a program for the State Milwaukee competition in January of 2008. He has done three test sessions to get to the level he now is at. Marques states - "believe me it was difficult". Marques started skating at the age of fifteen at the Pettit National Ice Center. There he found a job handing out skates to people. Marques tell us he didn’t own any skates because he couldn’t afford any of the expensive skating boots. For Christmas his parents got him his own skates and he was in heaven. But after a while they wore out because they were from a sporting good store and not well made. So Marques would skate at competitions with a broken boot. One day while practicing, a guy who skated at the Pettit saw him and said to his coach that “this boy is good, why is he skating so weirdly.” She told him well “his skates are broke.” the following week he gave Marques his old boots that he had only worn twice. They coast 300 dollars. Marques states that he was thrilled and excited.
To sum up his story Marques would like to say " people shouldn’t give up on what they believe in because they only have a little material. Right now he teachs little kids at the Pettit National Ice Center.
